UAE launches VAT refund system for tourists shopping online

The UAE has introduced a VAT refund system for tourists shopping online. Tourists can now claim VAT refunds on e-commerce purchases through platforms registered with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) by providing travel documents and personal details at the time of purchase. The refund process is finalized when they leave the UAE. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Planet, aims to enhance the UAE’s global competitiveness in tourism and e-commerce while simplifying tax refund procedures. It builds on the success of previous digital systems and further cements the UAE’s position as a top global tourist destination.
