Man in UAE fined Dh16,200 for scamming woman using pet adoption scheme
A Cameroonian man in the UAE has been fined Dh16,200 for defrauding a woman through a fake pet adoption scheme. The incident, which occurred in late 2022, involved a false advertisement for kitten adoption. The victim initially paid Dh2,200 for adoption fees and later transferred an additional Dh4,000 as a refundable insurance deposit after being misled. When the kitten was not delivered, and communication with the scammer ceased, the victim reported the case to Dubai Police. Based on the victim's testimony and evidence, the court convicted the defendant of online fraud. If the fine is not paid, the defendant will serve one day in prison for every Dh100 unpaid.
