Dubai Loop: High-Speed Underground Transport System to Ease Traffic

Dubai has unveiled plans for the ‘Dubai Loop,’ a 17-kilometer underground high-speed transport system designed to enhance urban mobility and reduce congestion. The project, developed in partnership between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Elon Musk’s The Boring Company, will feature 11 stations and transport over 20,000 passengers per hour using electric vehicles traveling up to 160 km/h. Experts highlight its benefits, including efficient land use, resilience to extreme weather, and seamless integration with existing transport networks like the Dubai Metro and Etihad Rail. However, challenges such as high construction costs, geotechnical complexities, and affordability concerns remain key considerations. If successfully implemented, Dubai Loop could serve as a global model for next-generation urban transit.
