Dubai hospitals, clinics to benefit as universal health insurance comes to Northern Emirates

The UAE's introduction of compulsory health insurance on January 1, 2025, for Northern Emirates residents is driving demand for healthcare services. While new hospitals and clinics in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah are years away, Dubai's well-equipped facilities will initially absorb the demand. Insured residents may seek care in Dubai due to better-equipped facilities, increasing strain but also revenue for Dubai healthcare providers. The policy ties visa renewals to having health insurance, encouraging compliance and driving healthcare infrastructure investments across Northern Emirates. Basic medical plans in the Northern Emirates cost significantly less than in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but often come with limited provider options.
