UAE: Several Women Fall for Fake Designer Bags, Lose Thousands in Social Media Scam

Several women in the UAE have fallen victim to a social media scam after purchasing counterfeit designer bags from a European seller. The scammer falsely claimed the bags were authentic and offered them at discounted prices, luring buyers into costly losses. One victim, Maria, purchased a 'Chanel' bag for Dh2,000, only to later discover it was fake. Dubai Customs seized 15 million counterfeit items in 2023, highlighting the ongoing issue. Legal experts warn that UAE laws impose strict penalties on counterfeiting, with fines reaching up to Dh2 million and potential jail time for offenders.
