UAE: How many breaks can employees take during work hours?
Under UAE law, employees cannot work for more than five consecutive hours without a break. According to Article 18 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, employees are entitled to breaks amounting to at least one hour per working day, which cannot be counted as part of working hours. The maximum working hours are capped at 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week unless overtime is paid. Employees may file a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation if these rights are violated.
