Crossing a red light in the UAE is a serious traffic violation that can result in hefty penalties. According to the Federal Traffic Law, offenders are fined AED 1,000, receive 12 black points, and have their vehicles impounded for 30 days. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the release fine for impounded vehicles can reach up to AED 50,000, and if unpaid, the vehicle may be auctioned. Additionally, using a mobile phone while driving is identified as a major cause of running red lights and carries its own penalties.
